Marathon Taster Box Guide

This guide is to accompany the marathon taster box that we've put together to help people who run or are working towards running a marathon. Maybe you're looking for some help with your nutrition. This guide outlines what products are included and how they can be used. The marathon is where people really experience 'distance' running. At this distance, fuel and nutrition really come into play and it's often a good idea to think about this as part of your training/running strategy. We've focused on a range of products that keep your body fuelled and staying hydrated. Also helping your body to recover.

High5 Energy Gel

Why do I use this?

The High5 Energy Gel contains 23g of carbs, which keeps the body fuelled when training or racing. If you've not eaten a meal 2 hours before you go out you can have one of these to make sure your body has the energy it needs to operate. 

When do I use this?

You can take one of these about 30 minutes before you start exercising if you've not eaten for more than 2 hours before you go out. If you're doing a run for more than 1:30 then you can take one of these after this time to keep your body going, and use up to 2 per hour when you're out.  

Why do I use this?

Another product we've included is the Isotonic Gel. This is designed to be a fast-absorbing easily digestible carb gel. Similar to the High5 gel, this has a slightly different consistency. It's good to find one that you like so try them both as part of your training.  

When do I use this?

You can take one of these about 30 minutes before you start exercising if you've not eaten for more than 2 hours before you go out. If you're doing a run for more than 1:30 then you can take one of these after this time to keep your body going, and use up to 2 per hour when you're out.  

Why do I use this?

Slightly different from a gel, these do the same thing but in chew form. Some people prefer taking energy like this so give these a go. They provide your body with the energy to perform.  

When do I use this?

These are fast acting and you can chew as you go (or just before you go out). It is recommended you drink some water with these, and use up to 2 packs per hour when you're out.

Why do I use this?

It's always good to keep hydrated. Water is perfect for this, but if you want some extra help we've included some High 5 Zero tablets in your box. We take these tablets to help the body retain fluids and keep you topped up with the electrolytes it loses whilst running.

When do I use this?

You can take these before, during and after a run. Just pop one in your water bottle and drink as you would water.

OTE Hydro Tabs

Why do I use this?

So you can find the hydrations tablets you like we've included some OTE Hydro tabs to try too. We take these tablets to help the body retain fluids and keep you topped up with the electrolytes it loses whilst running.

When do I use this?

You can take these before, during and after a run. Just pop one in your water bottle and drink as you would water.

Why do I use this?

This stuff is magic. It replaces all of the electrolytes and minerals that your body has lost through exercise and gives the muscles the protein to help repair your muscles after your session. It should reduce any soreness you have as a result. 

When do I use this?

Have a shake within 30 minutes of finishing your exercise to get the benefit. 

GU Roctane Recovery

Why do I use this?

Similar to the Rego Recovery drink, this is focused on muscle repair, so if you feel you've had a hard session this can help your body build the muscles after a run.
